As a Christ-centered congregation, we believe that Jesus is God’s Son, the risen Lord, and the answer to your deepest spiritual needs. Only Jesus can save you from your sins. Only he can give you the hope of eternal life beyond death. And you can have a personal relationship with Jesus today! He loves you, and he wants to be your friend, savior, and king. If you are ready to become a Christian, there are three things that you must do.
Before you can accept Christ as your Savior, you must recognize your need for him. The Bible tells us, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23) Every one of us has sin in our lives. This can show up in a number of ways: selfishness, greed, rage, lust, lying. The point is that our sin should grieve us because it not only harms others, but also because it destroys our relationship with God.
According to the Bible, grieving our sin is the first step toward being saved. “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret.” (2 Cor. 7:10) Grieving your sin means that you feel the weight of it in your heart, and it means that you are ready to apologize to God and others.
Second, you must believe the Gospel. This is the message of the Gospel: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, he was buried, he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Cor. 15:3-4) Jesus died on the cross to forgive all of your sins. Then he rose again from the dead to conquer the power of death forever. You can be saved because Jesus has forgiven your sins, and you can have hope because he has risen from the dead.
Many people believe that God will let them into heaven because they’ve been “a good person.” But that’s not how it works. There is no amount of good things you can do to earn your way to heaven. The only way to be saved is by putting your faith in Jesus Christ. What does that mean? First, it means that you acknowledge that Jesus died for your sins and that he rose again. Second, it means that you surrender your life to him and make him your king. Third, it means that you determine to live in obedience to his commands. The Gospel sets us free from trying to earn our salvation, and all the anxiety that comes along with it. Through faith in Christ, you can have confidence that your sins are forgiven, and that you will spend eternity with God.
Finally, you must receive Jesus as king of your life. You need to give him control and authority. God does not impose himself upon any of us. Instead, he wants to woo you. Jesus is waiting for your invitation. The book of Revelation tells us that he stands at the door and knocks. Will you let him in?
When you receive Jesus as king, you are committing yourself to following him for the rest of your life. You are swearing your allegiance to him. You are promising to obey him. Most importantly, you are entering into a loving relationship with Jesus. He is a good, gracious, and patient king. He wants what is best for you, and he will always work for your good.
This is the most important decision that you’ll ever make in your life. We hope that you will choose to grieve your sin, to believe the Gospel, and to receive Jesus as king. If you would like to talk with one of our pastors about committing to Jesus, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
