Day 73 of 100 Days with Jesus – John 14:1-14

The passage for today is John 14:1-14. You can read this passage online or on your phone by following along with The Essential Jesus reading plan on, or you can read it in your physical Bible. Take a few minutes to read John 14:1-14 carefully, inviting the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you read.

What did you see in the text? What is the main point being communicated? Here are some of the things that I saw.

This chapter is packed with some very complex statements, difficult to our natural understanding; but as taught by some, where Jesus talks about His Father’s many dwelling places and that He is going to prepare a place for you, I don’t believe this means that what we have to look forward to in our future presence with the Lord are material possessions.  Acts 7:48, 17:24 tells us that God does not dwell in houses or temples made by human hands. We are told in 1Cor. 3:16 that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you. We also know that we are being transformed day by day, from glory to glory, into the image of the Lord. 2Cor. 3:18. I believe this is the preparation Jesus is talking about. When He comes back, He will come for a bride ready for Him, to dwell with Him. The body of Christ will be the    perfected many dwelling places of God. By the exertion of His power to transform and subject all things to Himself, He is able to make us stand in the presence of His glory. (See Phil. 3:21, Jude 1:24) Jesus opens this up by explaining His abiding life with the Father, “He who has seen Me, has seen the Father”. Vs, Col. 1:19 supports this: “God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him.” God does not just see us through Christ, but He sees us through the face of Christ, in His humanity, by His eyes. “I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me.” We no longer have to think of ourselves hunkered down hiding behind Christ as He presents us to God. Jesus, who was without sin became sin for us. The sin of the world weighed on Him and that weight tore His flesh, the veil (Heb 10:20). There is now a Way (and Life – John 14:6) for us to unite with God, through the veil, into the Holy of Holies, to have an abiding life with God the Father; to contain, enjoy and express Him!

Seek the Lord in His word, they testify about Him. Renew your mind. Keep it awake and alert to God and commune with Him endlessly. Allow Him to dominate your thinking, words and manner. Practice to become reliant and receptive to the Holy Spirit, to be His witness. “The great pattern for every witness is the abiding Witness, the Lord Jesus Christ. He came down on men from above; He stood on our level, with what men never had, in order to save men.” Oswald Chambers

Lord, forgive us for our neglect of You and your precious word to us. Thank you for being our friend, strength and a present help; for Your faithfulness. Teach us Your ways and to walk with You. As we reap joy from our relationship, may we be a clear bold undiluted loving witness of you. May we like Jesus, walk in humility and stand on the level of people around us, in evidence to have what they don’t, in order to bring them the message of salvation. Amen.
