Christmas in John 3:16

Jesus is the gift that money could never buy. While most of us celebrate Christmas by giving gifts to our family and friends, God gave us a gift that we could never purchase or earn. In this Christmas message, pastor Yogi looks at a passage we don’t normally associate with Christmas: John 3:16. Obviously, John 3:16 is one of the most famous verses in the whole Bible, and it also is highly appropriate for the gift-giving season. God is the gift giver, the one who gave the greatest gift of all – Jesus Christ, his one and only Son. God gave this gift to us, humanity, so that we can be saved from our sins and be adopted into God’s family. God gave his one and only Son to draw sons and daughters out of the whole world.

The verses that follow John 3:16 are just as powerful! There we learn that Jesus didn’t come to condemn the world; he came to save it. God loves us so much that he wouldn’t condemn us, even though we deserve it. Instead, he offers us a way out, a way to be saved from the path of condemnation we are walking. That way is through belief in Christ, and it’s the only way to be saved. This is, truly, the greatest gift of all.
