Easter Sunday – The Death of Death
Easter Sunday is the high point of the Christian calendar because it is a special celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. On this day we remember the victory of Christ over sin and death. When he rose again, Jesus changed everything. In this Easter Sunday message, Pastor Andy talked about three benefits we receive from the resurrection.
The first benefit is salvation. We are saved from death by the one who conquered death. If Jesus wasn’t strong enough to defeat death, then he wouldn’t be strong enough to save us. But if he isn’t dead, if he truly has risen from the grave, then we are set free from our sins and he can save us.
The second benefit is that we have hope in the face of death. Because Jesus rose from the dead, we who follow him will also rise from the dead. Death is not the final word for Christ-followers. As we follow him by faith in this life, trusting in his grace, we also follow him through death and out the other side, into eternal life.
The third benefit is power over sin. Because Jesus is not a slave to death, you are not a slave to sin. Death came into this world because of our sin. Paul writes in Romans, “the wages of sin is death.” But because death has died, the power of sin over us has been broken.
