Titus: Grace and Glory
The letter to Titus may be brief, but it packs a hefty punch. In this message, Pastor Andy covers Titus 2:11-15, a powerful passage that speaks to the grace and glory of God. Up until this point in the letter, Paul has been telling Titus the “what” of ministry on Crete; now he covers the “why.”
This passage is framed by two appearances. The first appearance is found in verse 11 – the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. Jesus has come and conquered the common enemy of all mankind by dying for our sins and rising again from the dead. Because he has defeated our common enemy, he can offer salvation to everyone. The way that we take hold of this salvation is through faith, which as Pastor Yogi talked about in the first message of the series, is the combination of faith and commitment.
The second appearance is found in verse 13 – the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. This is a future appearing that we wait for in hope. Our lives are lived between two appearances: the grace and glory of God. The prologue of your story is the grace of God, and the epilogue of your story is the glory of God. Outside of this framework, life simply doesn’t make sense.
