The Upside-Down Kingdom: First Things First
This message from Pastor Yogi, called First Things First, brings us to Matthew 6:25-34, where Jesus addresses our propensity to worry. If we read the text from beginning to end, we see that worrying about provisions distracts from making God’s purpose first in our lives. But if we read the passage from the end to the beginning, we discover that when we seek God’s purpose first, He will make provision for our needs so that we don’t have to worry. Jesus is telling us to put first things first, and let God sort out the rest.
This requires a great deal of faith. As George Mueller said, “The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith. The beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety.” Or as Linda Dillow put it, “When we worry, we’re saying, ‘God can’t.'” The antidote to worry is faith, and faith looks like seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness first. When we put God’s kingdom first, he will give us everything that we truly need.
