  • Explain this Saturday prayer thing...

Jesus taught that when we pray, we are praying to Father God who is near and who is holy. Often we are too busy to recognize both of those truths in prayer.

Holy Saturday is significant becuase it was a day where God appeared silent- Jesus was in the tomb, and the disciples were scattered. But underneath the surface, God was presently at work- God was not done! So we are fasting as a church family and gathering for a special prayer evening to adopt a posture of expectancy and celebration- readying our hearts for the joy of Easter!

The actual prayer evening will be an open-house style self-directed experience. You stop by the church any time from 7pm-9pm and visit several prayer “stations.” Each station is a guided prayer exercise to help you unhurry from the the week and step into prayer with the Father. You’ll find the door open and printed instructions ready as you visit each station.

  • What is this Saturday Fast?

Holy Saturday actually has a long tradition of being a day where Christians give up eating and only drink water as a way to honor God with their bodies, and identify with the suffering Jesus experienced in His death. Our church family is invited to fast this day for the same reason- offer ourselves to God and make space to reflect on who God is. Our message theme for Easter Sunday is “God is not done” - and though God seemed silent on that Holy Saturday between Good Friday when Jesus died and Easter Sunday when Jesus rose again, He was working and He wasn’t done yet. Fasting is our way of celebrating this reality and history.
